The Cognitive Information Processing Approach
The Cognitive Information Processing (CIP) Theory to the acquisition of career problem solving and decision making skills began in 1971 and builds upon the self-directed career service delivery strategies developed at Florida State University .
Two core constructs in the CIP approach include:
- the pyramid of information processing domains which is the content of career problem solving and decision making involving, self-knowledge, occupational knowledge, decision-making skills, and metacognitions); and
- the CASVE cycle which is the process of career problem solving and decision making, involving the phases of communication, analysis, synthesis, valuing, and execution.
