Careers that Make a Difference

Florida Blind Services provides the tools, support, and opportunities for blind and visually impaired to ensure their success. It takes dedicated staff to do this. You can be a part of team that makes this happen.

Key Positions

Rehabilitation Technician (RT)

The RT is the first point of contact for most customers needing services. The RT provides information and required initial intake services to ensure customers get appropriate services. This is a possible stepping stone to becoming a counselor.

Children’s Counselor (Senior Rehabilitation Specialist-Blind)

Serve blind and visually impaired babies and children by providing direct services, arranging for services, and supporting parents or caregivers.

Adult Independent Living Counselor (Senior Rehabilitation Specialist-Blind)

Serve people dealing with gradual or catastrophic vision loss. Most of the customers are elderly.

Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Counselor (Senior Rehabilitation Specialist-Blind)

Assist blind and visually impaired people to become self-sufficient by gaining or retaining employment. Some staff will only serve high school students to get them ready for the world of work. VR Counselors are needed.

Critical Shortage - VR Counselors

If you are looking for a profession where you can get a job upon graduation and also want to help people, consider a degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. There is a critical need not only in Florida, but on the national level, for Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Counselors.

Persons with a degree in Rehabilitation Counseling are trained to work with people with disabilities to help them become more self-sufficient. An employment outcome is the ultimate goal.

On the national level there are many scholarships available to assist student in getting the Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling.
