Description - My eye disease of choice (well, my gene's choice anyway) is "Retinitis Pigmentosa". I recently completed my training at ILAB here in Jacksonville Fl. ILAB stands for Independent Living for the Adult Blind. What an eye opener it was (pun intended). I met wonderful folks and was even inspired to start a support group (with a little push from Sister Elizabeth) at the Taylor Home. I have made friends that will last a lifetime and found a new sense of myself.
Blind Back-packing and Bird-watching
Web site - Blind Back-packing and Bird-watching
Description - Being an account of what it is like to be an inveterate traveller and bird-watcher who loses his eyesight. Jim Turner. I am not one of those courageous heroes that we hear about on TV talk shows. I just kept on doing the things I always liked to do, even though it became more and more challenging (and exasperating). I don't really even think of them as being that much more challenging---I just take it easy and do things slower, and reduce my expectations somewhat. The two things I most enjoy are travelling and bird-watching. Generally, these days, I combine them both into the same activity, but to describe how I deal with them, I will divide them into two separate adventures.

BLINDSPOTS: Movie Reviews for Visually Impaired People
Web site - BLINDSPOTS: Movie Reviews for Visually Impaired People
Description - In 1995 I wrote an article called "Movies, Anyone?" for "Dialogue," a magazine for and by blind and visually impaired people. My intent was to get as many blind and visually impaired people to realize that going to the movies is a realistic option for an enjoyable afternoon or evening out. The response to the article was good, so I decided to start doing movie reviews and rating them, based on my ability to follow the picture with the aid of a sighted assistant. I've been publishing the movie reviews locally in my home town and in Dialogue and, again the response has been excellent. So, I decided to put it out on the net for all blind and visually impaired computer users. I rate movies on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being a movie that is next to impossible to follow, even with the best sighted assistant, and 10 being a movie that a blind person could follow and enjoy without any assistance from someone with sight. Usually any rating from 6 and higher will be workable with a sighted assistant. The movie reviews on this home page will not make judgments about profanity, violence or sexuality. Our sole concern is to inform viewers about the ease or difficulty that visually impaired people will experience while following the story.
Brian's Eye Story -- A Personal Encounter with Age-related Macular Degeneration and Choroidal Neo-Vascularization
Description - In these pages I shall tell you about an eye disease that I developed and how I came to grips with it. I spent the better part of a month scouring the Internet for information relating to AMD and CNV in hopes of understanding what my future held. I have included numerous links to other AMD and Ophthalmology pages and I'll show you some really gross pictures of my own eyes if you like. If you know what to watch out for, you might be able to receive treatment before its too late.
Internet Resources for the Blind
Web site - Internet Resources for the Blind
Description - Thank you for visiting my site. I created this site to help those persons, like myself who are blind and don't want to be left behind when it comes to the Internet or life in general. This page will hopefully be in a constant state of growth as I find more and more information to include on it, and I invite you to email me if you have any suggestions of links to include or suggestions that would make this page easier for you to use. I hope you enjoy using this site as much as I have enjoyed putting it together. In the future I plan to expand this site to include resources helpful to persons with other disabilities.
Personal Expressions Gallery
Web site - Personal Expressions Gallery
Description - "Abstract art is an expression of freedom because the Art can be viewed from different perspectives and attitudes, but always personal ones." -- Eric C.Peterson. Eric was diagnosed with Retintitis Pigmentosa at the age of 6 and is color and night blind. Retinitis Pigmentosa is a deterioration of the retina which impairs vision and can lead to blindness. It is a genetic disorder that is usually hereditary. Eric remembers when his father, also an artist, would work on sketches while talking to him. This memory is part of what inspires Eric to create his works. When Eric paints he always begins by "thanking God and his earthly father" for their inspiration and assistance. When Eric isn't painting, he enjoys the beach, metaphysics, and chatting on-line.

Description - Pull up a chair and make yourself comfortable. I'm your host V.I.P.(Visually Impaired Person) with R.P. (Retinitis Pigmentosa). For those who do not know, this means I am slowly losing my eyesight. I am not sure how much time I have left before I go completely blind, but I am told it is inevitable (so the doctors say). I will be filling this site up with as much useful information as I can find. If you feel you have something that would be beneficial to VIP's, please email me and I will post it on this site.
